Gloves were ridiculous, Sloan decided as she tried to wipe the snow out of her eyes. They were supposed to keep your hands warm in inclement weather, but wasn’t part of keeping your hands warm also keeping them dry? Her fingers were so numb, Sloan didn’t know if she’d ever be able to feel them again.
The quiet afternoon was suddenly filled with the sound of Elizabeth’s laughter. annoyed as she was, Sloan couldn’t help but smile at the little girl. Her black hair covering her face while she was doubled over in laughter. “Ha ha, very funny,” she said dryly. Elizabeth was having fun, but Sloan was more than ready to quit for the day and she told the little girl as much. the little girl that she remembered more than she remembered herself.
"I’ll put these up," Sloan picked up the sleds the two had been using, "And you go inside and get out of those wet clothes, okay?" Without waiting for a response, Sloan made her way towards the sled.
